A Public Dialogue on the Malta Presidency of the European Council organized by the Parliament Information Office in Malta was held on Friday 2 December 2016 at Grand Hotel Excelsior
The aim of the public dialogue was to inform in detail what the Malta Presidency of the Council of the European Union would be dealing with from 1 January 2017 to end of June 2017. Dr Peter Agius, Head of the Parliament Information Office in Malta outlined the powers of a Presidency, in this case of Malta and the major areas that the Malta Presidency will be dealing with.
Main challenges:
- Migration
- The Internal Market with emphasis on the European Digital Market
- Security
- Social Inclusion
- Maritime Affairs
Malta MEPs will have an important role to play.
MEP David Casa and NEP Therese Comodini Cachia addressed the Public Dialogue
MP Ian Borg gave an overview of the Malta Presidency and together with MEP Therese Comodini Cachia replied to questions from the floor. The general comment was the lack of information and consultation with Civil Society
