Association for Consumer Rights Annual General Meeting 2018: Consumers in the Digital World
The Association for Consumer Rights (ACR) recently held its Annual General Meeting at NCW Centre, Blata l-Bajda on 17 March 2018. The AGM focused particularly on the need for all citizens to be part of the digital transformation in various sectors.
President Mary Mangion welcomed the members and gave an overview of the initiatives that ACR carried out during 2017, highlighting the importance of educating consumers to be proactive. She also referred to a series of talks she has been holding for the elderly in our efforts to ensure that older citizens will remain in touch with new communication developments and to be able to be part of the digital world.
President Mary Mangion also led a very interesting and informative interactive presentation on ‘Travelling Making the right choices’ during which she explained new measures introduced to safeguard travellers rights.
A number of resolutions were debated and approved by the Assembly, including: Raising standards in Cross-border Health Services; Improving product safety and market surveillance; Hidden charges on car rentals; Consumers – Stakeholders in online platforms; Effective data protection and Better Management of Transport and Public Transport Services, Parking Spaces, State of roads and pavements.
The incoming Executive Committee for 2018, approved by the Assembly is composed of Mary Mangion, President, Barbara Buttigieg, Vice-President & PR, Grace Attard, General Secretary, Anna Dalli, Hon Treasurer, and members Lina Caruana, Marie Demicoli and Dr Fransina Abela, Legal Advisor.
In her concluding comments, President Mary Mangion emphasized the importance of education and empowerment for citizens of all ages and augured that ACR will continue in its efforts to protect consumers interests in a fast changing society.
