Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority marks World Consumers Rights Day 15.3.2019

The MCCAA Conference entitled Trusted Smart Products was highly interesting , informative and useful both for consumers and business in dealing with the benefits and threats of connected technologies

Opening the Conference, MCCAA Chairperson, Ing Helga Pizzuto highlighted the importance that all consumers be informed of new technological developments.
Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Rights, Deo Debattitista spoke about this fast developing technology that is becoming part of our daily life.
Topics dealt with in the presentations by speakers were:

  1. ‘The Brave New World: How Smart Products will change our world forever’ – addressed by Prof. Alexiei Dingli–Head of Department of Artificial Intelligence (University of Malta)
  2. Smart Products – Are consumers adequately protected? – addressed by Dr. Mariosa Vella Cardona – Legal Consultant
  3. Consumer Rights – Where is the EU going to safeguard consumer rights when buying smart products – addressed by Dr. Stephanie Darmanin–Policy Officer Enforcement of Consumer Law, (DG Justice and Consumers)
  4. Data Protection Rights and Smart Products – Mr. Saviour Cachia – Information and Data Protection Commissioner
  5. Smart policing – Malta’s experience in the fight against cybercrime – Inspector Timothy Zammit – Cyber Crime Unit (Police Department)
  6. Cyber security and your connected devices – Mr.Marcel Mizzi – GRTU Vice President (Finance &amp; Admin)
